This decision may not be the last word. Entry bans are issued for a limited period, and the authorities have the power to lift them. Decisions can also be reviewed by a court.
Three things to do now
- Find out what the ban is. Which authority issued it, what code, when, and for how many years? You can learn this from documents: the paper given to you at the border, e-Devlet, a written request to the Migration Management authority, or through a lawyer.
- Note the date. There is a time limit for challenging the decision in court, and in most cases it runs from the date you learned of the decision or it was notified to you. Do not lose the date of the decision.
- Gather your documents. Your family, job, studies, property or company in Türkiye; your past residence permits; and, if you have any, acquittal or non-prosecution documents.
There are two paths
- A written request to the Migration Management authority to lift the ban. The authority may lift the ban or allow entry for a set period.
- A case in the administrative court. If the decision is unlawful, unreasoned, or places a disproportionate obstacle on your family, work or education, its annulment can be requested. A stay of execution of the decision can be requested together with the case.
The two paths do not replace each other. Making a written request may not, by itself, protect the time limit for a case; the time limit is tracked separately.
What happens?
The outcome depends on the file; no one can promise a result. The ban may be lifted, shortened or remain.
Special situations
- Every code has a different basis (security, a criminal procedure, a violation, etc.). The basis of the code and its documents are examined separately.
- If the ban was issued together with a deportation decision, the time limits may be much shorter. Look at the dates in your decision.
- Unpaid fines or debts may make entry difficult even after the ban period has ended.
- An expired ban may still appear in the system; an update of the record can be requested.
Every file is different; the reason for the same code may differ between two people.
